Vietnam set to play a friendly match with Nigeria

VFF board confirmed to plan a friendly match between Vietnam and Nigeria teams in the upcoming time.

On June 10, Le Khanh Hai, VFF president,  had a meeting and worked with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Nigeria in Vietnam, Francis Efeduma.

During the meeting, Ambassador Francis Efeduma expressed his impression on the progress of Vietnamese football and offered to hold a friendly match between Vietnam and Nigeria in the future.

Mr. Le Khanh Hai also stated to direct the department to study the team schedule as well as domestic tournaments fixtures so that he could soon give out a suitble day to organize this friendly football event between Nigeria and Vietnam.

Nigeria is a powerful football platform not only in Africa but also in the world. "The Super Eagles" has joined World Cup 6 times, 3 times lifting the African championship, ranked 5th in the world in 1994.

Many Nigerian players have been playing in Europe including Premier League, Serie A such as John Obi Mikel, Nwankwo Kanu or Jay-Jay Okocha.

At the U23 level, the Nigerian Olympics were also very strong when they won the 1996 Olympics, clinched the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil. The level of Nigerian football has reached World Cup level, rivaling many European teams.

Regarding the plan for the friendly match, VFF vice president Tran Quoc Tuan said he will implement the direction of Mr. Le, assign the functional departments to coordinate and arrange the match combining doing professional work for the national team and U23, towards the key goals such as the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and AFC U23 Chmapionship Final , then the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
